Judd-509, Pattern Reverse, PR66 Brown
Ex: Eliasberg
1866 5C Shield Nickel, Judd-509, Pollock-592, High R.6, PR66Brown PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg-Simpson. Similar to the issued No Rays proofShield nickel, but struck in bronze with a plain edge. The layout of the starsrelative to the letters differs slightly from the regular issue. For example, astar points to the center of the first A in AMERICA, while most 1866 No Raysnickels have a star pointing between the AM in AMERICA. The pattern reverse diewas also used to strike a small number of issued proof No Rays nickels. Thistransitional pattern exists to the extent of fewer than a dozen pieces. Richchocolate-brown surfaces are glossy and they flash appreciably. Both sidesfeature impressive ice-blue patina.
